Orchid Daze

Lasting Impressions

Orchid Daze: Lasting Impressions celebrates the work of three artists who found creative energy in the beauty of landscapes: Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet and Paul Gauguin. The exhibition showcases the artists eye-opening ways of seeing and perceiving the world.

The frenetic swirls of Van Gogh’s Starry Night fuel the design for an overhead display of jewel-like miniature orchids, and upright spikes of dancing lady orchids echo his impasto brushstrokes. An orange, yellow, blue and white color scheme captures the artist's mad genius.

A tranquil pool filled with planters of lilac, pink and salmon pansy orchids and cattleya hybrids suggests clusters of water lilies from Monet's famed garden Giverny. Potted willows begin the exhibition as bare brown silhouettes, then scintillate with golden catkins and finally unfold in a diversity of greens. Miniature orchids and grass-like plants create jeweled tapestries beneath the trees.

The vibrant tropical island visions of Gauguin come to life with striking blue Vandas, flaming orange masdevillas and sunset yellow nun’s orchids. Some of Gauguin’s trademark Tahitian female figures appear amongst the foliage.
